Spectrum Series: Beyond Binary

Not everyone is Heterosexual or fits into the either male or female (binary) categories.  Gender can be expressed on a continuum.  Join us on February 19th from 6-pm in the Hedberg Library Program room to learn more about non-binary, gender fluid, bisexual,  pan sexual and asexual identities. JM4C Coalition

Janesville Mobilizing 4 Change (JM4C) is a collaboration of pro-active community members committed to preventing and reducing substance use among all youth through advocacy, awareness, and action. JM4C envisions a united Janesville focused on changing social norms to become a safer and healthier community. All community members are encouraged to attend this monthly coalition meeting. (3rd Thursday of every month from 12 pm - 1 pm in the JM4C Office)

BROKEN PLACES explores why some children are severely damaged by early adversity while others are able to thrive. By revisiting some of the abused and neglected children we profiled decades ago, we’re able to dramatically illustrate how early trauma shaped their lives as adults. BROKEN PLACES interweaves these longitudinal narratives with commentary from a few nationally renowned experts to help viewers better understand the devastating impact of childhood adversity as well as the inspiring characteristics of resilience.

Researchers have recently discovered a dangerous biological syndrome caused by abuse and neglect during childhood. As the documentary Resilience reveals, toxic stress can trigger hormones that wreak havoc on the brains and bodies of children, putting them at a greater risk for disease, homelessness, prison time, and early death.

The documentary Paper Tigers explores how trauma-informed care can transform a high school. Set within and around the campus of Lincoln Alternative High School in the rural community of Walla Walla, Washington, Paper Tigers asks the following questions: What does it mean to be a trauma-informed school? And how do you educate teens whose childhood experiences have left them with a brain and body ill-suited to learn?

The Intersectionality Between Faith & LGBTQ+
